Is IC engine - a dinosaur

Getting extinct - sometime near?

 

Gasoline oh that - liquid reeks

Is no fun - for techie geeks

Lingo changed - to all software

No garage to go - only OTA

Thank oh goodness - they retained wheel

A handle bar - still to steer

Brakes as I know - will disappear

Regen is what will -  replace here

No more pulse - thumping vibration

Whirring motors  - for new generation

Where are all those - petrol tanks

Replaced now with battery banks


Is IC engine - a dinosaur

Mileage angst - is the caution word

Hanging there - a Damocles sword 

Need more places - to be plugged 

To have those batteries charged

Come what may -  bike is there to stay

For bikers freedom - come what may

Change is one - that’s for sure

breathing air - much more pure

  Preface A sequel to a blog? It did not sound like a good idea. After all, any sequel never lives up to expectation especially after the reception of the first part. But then again, there have been sequels that have seen success like the movie “Bahubali”, "KGF" or the classic “Godfather”! So, why not, I asked myself. At the end, I decided that I’m writing to chronicle what I went through and to reminiscence and read it in my "Old age". My Brother’s friend

Long time back, my brother had a very close friend. Being so, he was also like an elder brother to me.  We lost touch with him many years back and even though we had made some feeble attempts to get back in touch, it did not work. Perhaps, more due to lack of intensity of getting back in touch from us and also from him.  He was a very genial and down to earth person. He had many an advice for me as I grew up.  When my brother attended his schoolmates 50th year get-together, he had hoped to see his old friend there and was disappointed not to see him. Enquiries with other classmates lead to an information that one of the classmates spoke to him about two plus years back and this old friend was sounding very sick with a feeble voice. Apparently, he had lost his job and was having health issues. The classmate gave a telephone number of the friend and it was not reachable. Bike ride in Thailand

Why Thailand? I n January 2025, I did a “South India” trip on a motorbike conducted by “ Goodwind Moto Tours ”. I immensely liked it. They announced a ride in Thailand amongst other destinations like Greece, Morocco etc. ( https://nsmcyberdude-thoughts.blogspot.com/2025/01/my-first-long-motorbike-ride.html ) I’m a conservative guy, after South India, thought Thailand would be a good choice. They drive on the same side as we do in India. The traffic is more disciplined and roads much better. So, it had to be my first “outside of India” biking trip and I enthusiastically signed up. Another reason was that I had neglected my health (particularly exercising) and my Son-in-law, Ashwin said “you are goal driven, sign up for some adventure and you will work for that, hence get back the muscle strength”. Deepavali Reflections: King Bali and the Spirit of Righteousness

Deepavali at our house. Deepavali in South India is celebrated over four vibrant days, each carrying deep cultural and spiritual meaning. The first day is Neeru Thumbuva Habba,  the ritual of water purification. We clean the vessels used for storing water, refill them with fresh water, and worship Ganga   maatha , the divine embodiment of water. Water being worshiped  PC: Sridhar S (Konanakunte) The second day, Naraka Chaturdashi or  Narakasura Samhara , marks the destruction of the demon Narakasura by Lord Krishna—a reminder of light prevailing over darkness. Narakasura samhaara. The third day brings Deepavali   Amavasya. Almost a month before this we would have celebrated  Mahalaya Amavasya ( during Dasara time ). That is s omewhat akin to a spiritual reflection day like Halloween in the West. We would have remembered our ancestors and offer prayers for their souls. A trip down the memory lane

   Srinath’s Art-deco fashioned house (PC: Srinath) For people from Bengaluru (Earlier days Bangalore) south, Lalbagh and Gandhi bazar holds a special place in their hearts. My friend Amarnath kept telling me to come for a walk in Lalbagh on Sundays. Sundays are reserved for my Motorbike rides and hence hadn’t been able to join him for a long time. This time, I decided that I will ride till Lalbagh and have a morning walk in Lalbagh with him and other two close friends Sheshanarayana and Mohan (We missed him on this walk). Post Lalbagh walk - Mandatory idli breakfast  While bike can be parked easily, the idea of lugging the helmet (A Schubert) and not leaving it hanging to the bike was not a great option. I needed a place to keep it safely. Sixty - retired?

Like many in my friend’s circle, I too turned 60 a few years back. So, the children born in sixties, are turning sixty.  When    young (still think    I am) and had entered into professional life in MICO (now Bosch India), we organised and attended “Retirement parties” for our seniors. The retirement age being 58. I used to think that “they” were old and perhaps many of them thought the same.  Not many of them took up an active role and would be happy with a consulting role, if it came across or accept    a more domesticated role as go-getters, getting milk, vegetables, helping in the kitchen, hang out with friends, go to temple, turn more philosophical and sometimes ritualistic.   I am now in this specific group and haven’t retired. Also having seen many of my friends leading an “active life”, set me thinking whether the 'old age' definition has changed? Do the current generations have a “longer life” as the life expectancy has gone up?...

Being bald

Yours truly.. It has been a few years since I decided to go completely bald. I mean shave off those tufts of hair that sticks around and in the front like that of Tin Tin (Incidentally, TinTin is called Kuifje in Flemish meaning a tuft of hair. Pronounced as Ku-if- ye) Herge was a Belgian. TinTin (Copy rights to the concerned acknowledged here) The joke around that time which I used to crack (much to the discomfort of my children who had not yet come to terms with my “Dad jokes”) was ..” Prime Minister Modi ji asked us to go Keshless and hence I shaved off, little understanding the fact that he wanted us to go Cashless, undoubtedly pronounced with a Gujarati accent ”. Yes, that was the time of introduction of UPI… Since then, I have heard interesting anecdotes about baldness, heard nice poems about it, saw a satire movie called “ಒಂದು ಮೊಟ್ಟೆಯ ಕಥೆ” (Story of an egg) and have written a poem too about it too.  The Himalayan A rider’s dream The first ever Motor bike that I bought was at a very young age of 57 (Yes, Fifty seven). It was a “now or never” moment for me and I wanted to go for it or as Nike says “Just Do it”  Before this, I had, in a  show of bravado, ridden my cousin Balaji’s Rajdoot motorcycle during my college days. Later on, after a gap of nearly forty years, I started tentatively to ride different bikes and get used to the feel. I used a rental agency called “Wicked Rides” #wickedrides . I tried out Harley Davidson and Royal Enfield. I also got a few bike rides from friends and known people who had these brands. That was when REML had launched the Himalayan and it had got mixed reviews. While many praised it performance and how it looked, few had issues with its build quality. A Rider’s dream South India Ride   Being a South Indian myself, why this “South India ride”, you may ask! Well, I did that to myself too.  It all began when I wanted to have a short ride in Leh and had rented a Himalayan there. This was during the “Landrover Defender Journey from Leh to Chandigarh” ( https://nsmcyberdude-thoughts.blogspot.com/2024/07/journey-in-himalayas-leh-chandigarh.html ) I met a distinguished young gentleman (for me young or old is nothing to do with biological ageing) name Mr. S Bhat who was from Hyderabad.
